Droplet and Spray Freezing


Droplet freezing is an active field of research in various applications, such as atmospheric sciences, mine ventilation, and spray freeze drying in pharmaceutical and food industries. The solidification process undergoes five distinct stages: liquid supercooling, nucleation, recalescence, equilibrium freezing, and solid subcooling.

We combine mathematical modeling, sensitivity analysis and optimization to accurately predict full stages of droplet freezing from macro- to micro-scale. The droplet solidification model is also extended to compute the thermodynamic process of spray freezing technology at a system level, incorporating both the heat transfer and fluid dynamics of each droplet.
